While Cannes Lions champions commercial creativity, the festival also provides a platform to showcase creativity as a catalyst for progress, empathy and human connection through award entries, conference panels and the LionHeart Award. This year’s recipient of the LionHeart Award is Oprah Winfrey, who will be honoured in recognition of a career that has consistently combined cultural influence with social impact. One of the Festival’s highest

honours, the award recognises individuals who have used their platform to drive positive and lasting change in the world.

Few figures embody that mission more completely than Winfrey. Across decades as a broadcaster, producer, entrepreneur, author and philanthropist, she has built one of the most influential media platforms in modern history while using that influence to elevate under-represented voices, expand access to education and encourage public conversations around often unspoken issues.

Her impact extends well beyond the media businesses that bear her name. Through philanthropic initiatives including the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South

Africa, she has invested directly in creating opportunities for future generations, reinforcing a belief that influence carries a responsibility to empower others.

Announcing the honour, Philip Thomas, chair, LIONS, said: “Oprah Winfrey’s influence extends far beyond media. She has consistently used her platform to elevate others, challenge perspectives and inspire change. Her sustained commitment to using influence responsibly has helped create opportunities for others while broadening understanding on a global scale — embodying the true spirit of the LionHeart award.”
