A great week for Peru just got even better — with Circus Grey, Lima, and BCP bank securing a Creative Data Grand Prix for the outstanding SOS POS campaign.

The team capped off their celebrations by also securing a Gold Lion. Creative Data Jury President Anupriya Acharya, CEO, Publicis Groupe, South Asia, called SOS POS “a fabulous piece of work. The biggest thing about the idea was that it is so deceptively simple. Why did nobody think of it before?”
The campaign set out to deal with the scourge of mobile phone theft, focusing on scenarios where motorbike thieves snatch phones, unlock them and drain bank accounts in a matter of minutes.
In such situations, consumers want to inform their bank quickly but can’t because their phones have been stolen. The SOS POS solution was to make it possible for consumers to disable their phones by tapping in security information into point-of-sale terminals in local shops.
BCP and Circus Grey then mapped out the major crime hotspots in Lima and made sure that there was always a POS terminal within a two-minute walk in these areas. They also launched a deal so that consumers could buy new phones on interest-free contracts.
“Banking is a difficult category to differentiate in, but this campaign built trust through the use of data,” said Acharya.

“It’s also a very universal idea because everyone has a smartphone and often they do their banking on it.”
Looking at the wider category, the jury awarded one other Gold Lion to a campaign from Mexico/Venezuela.
Acharya said the jury was looking for powerful ideas which had tech at their core — not adjacent to the idea. “Did it have scale, did it raise the bar for Creative Data and could it move people, culture and society forward?” she said.
